Dame Silvia Cartwright, the Governor- General of New Zealand, has said the UAE is a significant and multi-purpose market for her country. She described her country's 20-year old relations with the UAE as "distinctive", saying New Zealand was keen to promote mutual cooperation since both countries were inter-linked with bilateral economic, trade and avoidance of double taxation accords.

Cartwright made her statements as Dr. Saeed Mohammed Al Shamsi, UAE's ambassador to Australia, was presenting his credentials as a non-resident envoy to New Zealand. The Governor General hailed efforts being exerted by the UAE in combating international terrorism.

She asked the envoy to convey her greetings to President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and Their Highnesses the Rulers of the Emirates. She said New Zealand contributes positively to the stability of the Arabian Gulf region. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
