The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation on Wednesday sent 60 tonnes of emergency relief to Yemenis in the cyclone-struck Socotra Island in response to instructions from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

This is the 15th aid plane to have been sent by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation to Yemen.

The initiative is being followed by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.

The aid plane left from Sharjah International Airport this morning for Socotra carrying 33 tonnes of blankets and tents and 27 tonnes of food supplies and other relief substances to be distributed to locals suffering shortages due to the powerful cyclone, an official source at the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation said.

The latest UAE aid shipment will be distributed to the locals at 15 points on Socotra being struck by Chapala, the strongest tropical cyclone on record to hit Yemen.

In June, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation sent 14 planes carrying 450 tonnes of emergency relief and two ships carrying 7000 tonnes of emergency food aid, medicines and medical supplies to Yemen in line with instructions from the UAE leaders. – Emirates News Agency, WAM –
