UAE an oasis of peace: Warner

Jack Warner, Chairman of the FIFA World Youth Championship UAE 2003 said he is quite confident that the leadership and people of the UAE who transformed once-a-desert backyard into a real paradise, have the ability and vision to host any international event however big it is. Speaking to newsmen at the Dubai International Airport VIP Lounge, the FIFA spokesman said he has never visited a country in his life so frequently than what he is doing now.

"We are here to tell the world that a small country of the size of the UAE is hosting the world despite tension in the region," Warner was quoted by "Khaleej Times" as saying. Warner confirmed that the preparations of the UAE for the international event are second to none and the facilities are first class in all respects. "Just tell me about any training facility in the world of the same quality as the Dubai Police Officers' Stadium," he said. "For me the UAE is a real oasis of peace and love. The hotels are excellent and the stadiums are of international standards. I don't think the level of cooperation and friendship we are receiving from the officials and members of the working committee will be outclassed by any other country in the world," he said.

Warner thanked Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed and the officials of the country for their generous support to the tournament which is the second big event organised by the FIFA at the international level. "We are here also to prove that the people in this region are civilised, active and friendly. They are capable of getting the job done with high efficiency and quality. It is the place which you will never forget," he said. FIFA Event Manager V. Julian Stanculescu said that everything is fine and the performance of the committees is perfect and excellent. "The preparations are very good. Everyone is working hard despite the circumstances of the holy month of Ramadan. They are all there to help you at the right time," he said.

"We have opened 40 FIFA offices around the four venues as well as in the stadiums to serve the competition," he said. Regarding the facilities and services provided for the officials and the players, Julian said they have exceeded even their expectations. "I don't think there are better quality facilities and services in the world than what we have seen in the UAE.”The FIFA General Coordinator told me that all the arrangements are well in place.

I would like to avail this opportunity to thank the chairman of the Dubai Organising Committee my friend Ebrahim Abdul Al Malik and the head of the public relations committee Ebrahim Al Banai as well as all the members of the working committees. They are doing a perfect job," he said. The international figure also thanked the UAE Media and Press for their sincere support of the event saying that they are obliged to the newsmen, both English and Arabic, for their hard work and desire to ensure the success of the championship. The coverage is more than marvellous," he said.

Ebrahim Abbul Malik, Chairman of the Dubai Organising Committee, said they are pleased to hear all these compliments from the FIFA officials, but this will not mean that their job is over. "Still we have a lot of work to do and a long distance to go. The directives of General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum are very clear that the sky is the limit. "Our ambitious are endless and we are too much keen not to hit the success but to excel," he said. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
