UAE and China sign a number of agreements and MoU's

BEIJING: The UAE and China today signed a number of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding, MoUs, in various fields, in Beijing.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Li Yuanchao, Vice President of the People's Republic of China.

An MoU on the exchange of drivers licenses in both countries was signed by the H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, and Meng Hongwei, Chinese Deputy Minister of Public Security. The MoU will introduce the mutual recognition of drivers licenses between the UAE and China, particularly for light private vehicles.

Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Du Yubo, Vice Minister of Education in China, signed an MoU for cooperation in the field of higher education to encourage cooperation in the fields of science and ensure the quality of education between higher education and centres of scientific research institutions in both countries. The agreement also stipulates that the two parties exchange university scholarships annually, and share experiences, publications and periodicals on higher education.

Dr. Gargash and Zhi Shuping, Chinese Director of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, signed an MoU for cooperation in the standardisation and metrology fields, and conformity assessment. The MoU aims to enhance existing economic relations between the two countries by removing technical trade barriers, and cooperating in standardisation, metrology and conformity assessments to achieve the economic interests of both sides.

An agreement was also signed for the exchange of faculty members and students, and strengthening the academic and research cooperation between Masdar Institute for Scientific Research and Tsinghua University. The agreement was signed by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State, and Chen Xu, Chairperson of Tsinghua University Council.

A protocol cooperation was signed in the field of diplomatic training and exchange of information between the Emirates Diplomatic Academy and the China Foreign Affairs University. The agreement was signed by Dr. Sultan Al Jaber and Zhao Jinjun, President of the Foreign Affairs University.

The twos parties will cooperate in the publication of articles written by both countries on issues relating to international politics, as well as various other exchanges.

A currency exchange agreement between the Central Bank and the People's Bank of China was signed by the Mubarak Rashid Al Mansouri, Central Bank Governor, and the Deputy Governor of the People's Bank of China.

The agreement aims to conduct transactions including the sale and resale, purchase and repurchase of the Chinese Yuan against the UAE Dirham and the UAE Dirham against the Chinese Yuan in order to encourage and promote bilateral trade and direct investment for economic development in the two countries.

The two sides also signed an MoU on the establishment of a clearing centre for the Chinese currency.

Both sides agreed on a joint review of the implementation of the relevant arrangements on 'Renminbi' companies in the UAE and to hold discussions on necessary adjustments and improvements.

The parties also agreed to establish regular dialogues to review the liquidity of the Renminbi currency and discuss relevant events about the stability of its market.

Dr. Khalifa Mohammed Thani al Rumaithi, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the UAE Space Agency, and the Administrator of China National Space Administration, signed an MoU for cooperation in the field of space research and development and the peaceful use of outer space. The MoU aims to encourage and promote cooperation and exchange in the field of exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes on the basis of mutual benefit.

The agreement includes cooperation in research, development of satellite for scientific experiments, remote sensing, communications, launch services, follow-up and satellite control, and operation and management in orbit.

The MoU also stipulates the use of research, development, and satellite ground systems and applications to deal with the material in space, as well as atmospheric science, radio astronomy, astrophysics, and zero gravity testing.

Also signed was a protocol cooperation agreement in the field of archiving by Dr. Abdullah Al Rayes, Director-General of the National Archives and the Director-General of the Chinese National Archives.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi also witnessed the signing of several other agreements between a number of institutions from the two sides, including a joint cooperation between China Vanke Co. Ltd. and Masdar Institute which was signed by Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State, and Chairman of Masdar and Wang Shi, the Chairman of Vanke, to support and consolidate long-term relations between the two companies based on the shared vision.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, who is also Chief Executive Officer of the Mubadala Development Company, and Wang Yilin, the President of the China National Petroleum Corporation, signed a strategic agreement for cooperation in oil exploration and production.

The agreement provides for cooperation in specific in the oil and gas sector outside the United Arab Emirates and especially the new and existing projects including traditional existing projects in wilderness areas and marine projects and projects of liquefied natural gas fields. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395289208317.html
