UAE and Egypt review Middle East peace efforts and regional crises

Cairo - Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, has received from President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan a letter dealing with the latest developments on the Arab scene. Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan presented the letter to the Egyptian President when the latter received him yesterday.



President Mubarak conveyed through Sheikh Abdullah to the UAE President a message in which he reiterated the special place the UAE government and people have in the heart of the Egyptian people.



He expressed Egypt's preparedness and aspirations to further boost relations of cooperation with the UAE.



A spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, Sulaiman Awad, said in a statement that Sheikh Abdullah had conveyed from the UAE President, H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Egyptian President a letter dealing with the latest developments on the Arab scene and efforts being made to activate the Middle East peace process and the visit to the Middle East region by US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice.



He said during the meeting, they discussed developments in Iraq, Lebanon and the Gulf region in view of the current debate on Iran's nuclear programme, adding that the Egyptian President reviewed with the UAE Foreign Minister Egypt's recent efforts to break the deadlock in the Middle East peace process through his meetings with Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas on December 27, 2006, Israeli President, Ehud Olmert, on January 4, 2007 and King Abdullah II of Jordan Last Wednesday, as well as the anticipated visit to the region by the US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice.



He said President Mubarak had reiterated to Sheikh Abdullah Egypt's commitment to continue to consult and coordinate with all Arab countries and the Palestinian side so that all Arabs talk with "one voice". He reiterated the need to break the deadlock in the peace process and push it forward, adding that President Mubarak conveyed through Sheikh Abdullah to the UAE President a message which stresses that the UAE government and people have special place in the heart of the Egyptian people and that Egypt was prepared and looking forward to further boost cooperation with the UAE.
