The UAE and Egypt share common views on a number of issues as demonstrated by the talks held yesterday between President H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak, a top Egyptian presidential advisor said here today.

"There is a complete conformity of views between the two leaders. We have also realised during our discussions in Abu Dhabi with officials that there is a strong and unshakable commitment by the UAE to current Arab national issues, notably Iraq, Palestine and Arab unity and solidarity” said Dr. Osama Al Baz,

Political Advisor to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Al Baz told reporters that the two leaders conferred on proposed visions aimed at augmenting common Arab cooperation and rejuvenating the Arab league so as to play a more effective role politically, economically and culturally. He further added that the talks touched on bilateral cooperation, including the UAE readiness to enhance its investments in Egypt. Describing Sheikh Zayed as a towering Arab national figure, Al Baz said: "The UAE readiness to further expand its investments in Egypt stems from the strong conviction of President H.H Sheikh Zayed that Egypt has always been and will continue to be a key player in Arab issues”. He revealed that both countries agreed to exchange visits during the coming few months so as to reinforce bilateral relations.

On the upcoming Arab summit, Al Baz said Sheikh Zayed and Mubarak agreed on the need for a better preparation for the summit so that Arabs emerge thereafter with a greater consensus on issues on the agenda. He said the summit will discuss a proposal to set up an Arab security council and an Arab Court of Justice.

On Iraq, Al Baz stressed the importance of a common position vis-à-vis the Iraqi situation. Many Arab countries are now consulting with various Iraqi groups to ascertain the kind of assistance that Iraq expects of its brethren, he said. Al Baz called for enhanced efforts to implement the Road Map peace plan in the Middle East. He further called for the resumption of talks on the Syrian-Lebanese track, saying that Syria has always been ready to negotiate on the principle of land for peace and as spelt out by UN Security resolution 338 and 242.
