UAE and Jamaica establish diplomatic relations

New York - The United Arab Emirates and Jamaica, on Friday, signed a joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Ahmed Al-Jarman, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the United Nations and Raymond Wolfe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the United Nations signed in duplicate the Joint Communiqué in Arabic and English at a ceremony at the UAE's mission headquarter in New York.

"The Governments of the United Arab Emirates and Jamaica, guided by their mutual willingness to promote mutual understanding and strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, social, humanitarian, cultural and scientific areas based upon the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and the norms of international law, Respecting the principles of equality among States, national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of other States; Have decided to establish diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of April 18, 1961, as of the date of the signing of this Joint Communiqué ," the Joint Communiqué says.

Jamaica is an island nation of the West Indies and is the third largest island in the Caribbean Sea, after Cuba and Hispaniola. Jamaica's language of government and education is English, although the patois form of Jamaican Creole is widely spoken by a population of around 2.8 million people. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
