UAE and Kuwait sign seven joint cooperation agreements

UAE and Kuwait signed yesterday, at the end of the first meeting of the higher joint committee for cooperation, seven agreements and memos of understanding. The agreements and memos of understanding, which included cooperation in fields of tourism, culture, education, sports and environment, were signed by HH sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE foreign minister and HE Dr. Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al Salim Al Sabah, Kuwaiti deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs. Sheikh Abdullah hailed the distinguished relations between the two countries, describing them as growing for better. For his part, Sheikh Mohammed Sabah lauded the stance of the UAE towards Kuwait in the different crises the Kuwaiti people witnessed at different times.

A joint statement, issued at the end of the two-day meeting, said the committee was guided in its works by the wise guidance of leaders of the two countries - President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah, spirit of the one family and common destiny and goals.

The first meeting was in implementation of the bilateral cooperation agreement signed in Kuwait on 24 April 2007. The UAE and Kuwait expressed satisfaction at the level of progress in their bilateral ties and affirmed their determination to further boot these relations for the benefit of the two brotherly countries and their peoples. Emarati and Kuwaiti officials explored mechanisms of strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in various domains. They also reviewed latest regional and international developments.

The two countries also said they were satisfied with joint consultations and coordination for serving interest of the two countries and maintaining security and stability of the region. At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides inked a series of agreements and memos of understanding covering the areas of tourism, culture and art, higher education and scientific research, political consultations, youths and sports, and conservation and protection of the environment. The two sides agreed to hold the second meeting of the committee in Kuwait in March 2009. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
