UAE and Kuwait unequivocally supportive of Palestinians: Abdullah

Kuwait - Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed has said UAE and Kuwait stood unequivocally behind the Palestinian people "without expecting thanks from any body". "Our fundamental duty is to support the Palestinian people on the ground. We do not expect thanks from any party", the UAE Foreign Minister said.

Sheikh Abdullah was responding to a question on the failure of Hamas Political Bureau Head to recognise Kuwait among the countries that supported the Palestinian cause. "The neglect ions of our brothers in Hamas are on the rise these days, when they ought to show a downtrend. The UAE and Kuwait are not expecting thanks from any one", he said.

"Some politicians tend to show such an attitude, deliberately or otherwise", he said. He hoped, however, that the matter could be interpreted in good faith. In a departure statement yesterday at the end of a two-day visit to Kuwait, Sheikh Abdullah expressed his sympathy with the victims of last night's blasts in Sinai, condemning the perpetrators as "ignorant, ill-minded, inhuman and incredibly fool".

He expressed appreciation to the Kuwaiti leadership with whom he conferred today. "I am thankful to the Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jabir, Crown Prince, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmed Al Jabir Al Sabah, and Prime Minister Nassir Al Mohammed Al Ahmed Al Sabah, for their thoughtful advices," he said. "We all hope that the forthcoming GCC consultative summit in Riyadh would be a success," he said.

The Kuwaiti Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister, Dr. Mohammed Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, praised Sheikh Abdullah's visit as fruitful. "We agreed to have regular joint meetings, not between the two foreign ministries alone, but also among the various sectors and ministries," he said.

Sheikh Mohammed announced that a joint committee will meet early next year in Abu Dhabi. "We have also agreed on diplomatic and consular cooperation," he added. The Kuwait Minister praised the efforts of the UAE, the current GCC chairman, and Sheikh Abdullah's endeavour, in preparing for the forthcoming GCC-EU meeting in Brussels, and the meetings to be held on the sidelines of the UN gathering.

"We have full confidence in the UAE leadership of the GCC. This small country has put out an impressive example of durable unity," he said.

Commenting on the Sinai explosions, the Minister said they were targeted against the Egyptian people, Egyptian Moslems and human values. Describing the perpetrators as a devious gang, he extended his condolences to the Egyptian leadership and people. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
