United Arab Emirates and Libya signed two memoranda of understanding on the establishment of a joint committee and coordination of political consultations between the two countries.

The two MoUs were separately signed by UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Moussa Koussa, Secretary to Libya's People's Committee for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation.

Sheikh Abdullah said that the UAE-Libyan talks had been successful as they met the desired objectives for serving the interests of both countries and strengthening areas of cooperation between them.

He commended the positive role played by the delegations of both countries in leading the talks into fruitful results.

He also expressed appreciation for the hospitality and warm reception given to him and his entourage during his visit, wishing the Libyan people further progress and prosperity.

Both sides stressed the importance of searching for more ways to open new horizons in the development of the aspects of cooperation to serve the common interests of peoples of both brotherly countries.

The two sides had held extensive discussions over the past two days on various areas of cooperation and explored ways for developing them. The talks stressed the need to intensify the bilateral consultations between the two countries on various regional and international issues and coordinate stances in Arab and international forums in order to serve common interests.

They also discussed the 22nd Arab summit due to be held in Tripoli in March this year and stressed the importance of the summit for achieving the aspirations of the Arab people and strengthening the institutions of joint Arab action.

The two sides also discussed cooperation in the economic field, trade and investment and stressed the need for activating the work of joint committees between DP World and the Libyan ports development authority.

The two sides also agreed to complete the study for reaching an agreement for the avoidance of double taxation to be signed in Abu Dhabi later this year. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
