The UAE and Syria have had historical and vibrant relations, thanks to leaders of the two countries whose keenness helped sustain fraternal ties, the Syrian News Agency SANA has said. In a report ahead of a state visit to the UAE by President Bashar Al Assad, SANA said the two countries had a lot in common in terms of shared values and common views on a host of Arab issues. "More importantly, the two countries share a common desire to foster bilateral cooperation on political, economic, social and cultural spheres, using the strong support and commitment of President Khalifa and Al Assad", said SANA.

President Al Assad who is the current Chairman of the Arab League will work to cement inter-Arab ties with the view of unifying ranks and building common consensus on major Arab issues, the agency said. Al Assad will begin a visit to the UAE on Sunday, from where he will travel to Kuwait. High his agenda are the implementation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions on the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The Syrian news agency cited the participation of the UAE in the recent Arab Summit in Damascus as a sign of its commitment to Arab unity. "The UAE under the leadership of Sheikh Khalifa has been a strong proponent of Syrian rights over its occupied lands. The two countries have also been noted for their forthright vision on various issues", said the agency. It further added that UAE-Syrian relations will see an even greater vibrancy within the next few years as top officials continue to exchange high-level contact sand visits and as conducive investment climate continues to be created in both countries. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
