New York - The UAE and the Kingdom of Tonga have agreed to establish diplomatic relations at ambassadorial levels. In a joint statement issued yesterday, the two countries expressed desire to promote mutual understanding and friendship. They also agreed to bolster bilateral cooperation on the basis of the United Nations principles of mutual respect and promotion of global peace and stability. They further agreed to uphold international conventions, particularly those pertaining to sovereignty of states and non-interference in the domestic affairs of other countries. The agreement was signed by Abdul Aziz Nasser Al Shamsi, UAE's Permanent Representative to the UN, and on behalf of the Kingdom of Tonga by head of its permanent mission to the United Nations.
