President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh have re-affirmed their commitment to remove any obstacles that may hinder the development of relations between the two countries.

In a joint communiqué issued at the end of the state visit of Yemeni President to the UAE. the two leaders stressed the importance of reaching an all-out, just and permanent solution to the Palestinian question, in accordance with the relevant International resolutions 338 and 242, the Roadmap, the Madrid Conference framework and the principle of land for peace. The final settlement, said the two leaders, should also adopt the Arab peace Initiative as presented in the Beirut Summit in 2002.

The two leaders condemned terrorist acts targeting Iraqi people and state institutions and holy places. They further underlined the need to maintain the unity of Iraq, its political independence and sovereignty over its own lands. The security and stability of Iraq must be respected and accordingly and militias should be disarmed and disbanded.

Sheikh Khalifa and President Saleh appealed to the Lebanese people to adhere to dialogue as a medium to harmonize stances of Lebanese sides, adding that and foreign interference in the Lebanese affairs should be rejected. Both sides praised the positive results that were achieved in Paris Conference 3 for Rebuilding Lebanon.

About the latest developments in Somalia, both presidents called upon concerned parties to return to the negotiations table and resume talks so as to deepen and reinforce the stability of Somalia. They lauded the efforts made by the Sudanese government to promote peace in Sudan.

On the Middle East, the two leaders said that in order for peace and stability in the Middle East and the Arabian Gulf to prevail, the region must be freed from all weapons of mass destruction and atomic bombs. They also called upon the International Community and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to put pressure on Israel to join the International conventions on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
