UAE backs Syria to face challenges

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday voiced its support for Syria in facing the recent developments in reference to recent Israel's air raid on Syrian territory and urged further Arab joint coordination of stances in standing behind the Arab country. 'Recent developments in the Middle East have shown dangerous deterioration in the peace process in many fronts especially the Israeli air raid on a Syria site which was a flagrant violation of the Syrian state's sovereignty,' said Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) Saeed Mohammed Al Kindi while addressing the 44th extraordinary session of the Arab Parliamentary Union (APU).

However, Al Kindi stressed the importance of pursuing the peace process by backing the road map for peace. 'The Quartet should be activated to ensure attainment of peace and security in the Middle East,' Al Kindi told the two-day Damascus gathering.

He condemned the Israeli unjustifiable military attack on Syria and warned that it would drag the region into a fresh cycle of violence and instability. He also called on full withdrawal of Israel from the Arab lands it occupied in order to reach a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the region. 'Despite the continuous regional and international efforts to find a settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict, Israel's policies of rejection and violation have put snags on the way of the road map for peace,' Al Kindi maintained. 'An Arab joint coordination is needed to back Syria in order to face the recent developments and relieve foreign pressure,' he said. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
