New York – The UAE expressed hope that negotiations regarding the Iranian nuclear issue result in a peaceful and permanent settlement that would not compromise the safety of the region's countries. Ambassador Abdul Aziz Nasser Al Shamsi, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN stressed the country's support of the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful applications, in a speech to the world body.

"The UAE is committed to all the disarmament agreements and treaties it had signed, especially the ones concerning the ban of weapons of mass destruction.” Al Shamsi said at a meting organised by the General Assembly to discuss disarmament and international security. Al Shamsi said that the international armament race is still the biggest danger threatening international security and economic stability, especially at a time when people have realised the gravity of the disputes that may arise as a result of this race.
