UAE condemns Israel's actions on occupied land

New York - The UAE has urged the international community to dismiss as invalid all laws, judicial and administrative measures imposed by Israel on the holy city of Jerusalem and the occupied Golan Heights.

It called for adoption of a mechanism for monitoring Israel's fulfilment of its legal obligations, particularly those related to the applicability of the Geneva Fourth Accord to all the occupied Palestinian and Arab territories, and adherence to the verdict issued by the International Court of Justice calling on Israel to remove the dividing wall in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

"The Middle East Region, unlike any part of the world, is still suffering from Israel's occupation of Palestinian and Arab territories since 1967", Ambassador Abdul Aziz bin Nasr Al Shamsi, the UAE Permanent Envoy to the UN, told a special General Assembly meeting held recently to discuss Middle East Developments. The persistent tampering with these occupied territories, he added, is a flagrant violation of around 40 Security Council and over 600 General Assembly resolutions adopted over the last 58 years.

Ambassador Al Shamsi stressed that the international community's passiveness had encouraged Israel to turn a deaf ear to the international law and to continue its exploitation of the natural resources of the occupied territories. "The UAE strongly condemns these practices, which demonstrate that Israel is not in favour of peace", he added. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
