The UAE has condemned the killing of two Japanese diplomats in Iraq yesterday, saying that such a criminal act would not serve the interest of the Iraqi people. +This hideous criminal act would not serve the interest of the Iraqi people+ said ambassador Abdullah Rashid Al Nuaimi, Assistant Undersecretary of the UAE Foreign Ministry for political affairs. Al Nuaimi, who received the Japanese ambassador to the UAE Makoto Fujioka, conveyed the condolences of the UAE to the Japanese people and government as well as to the families of the victims.

During the meeting, Al Nuaimi and the Japanese envoy reviewed the efforts being exerted by Japan and the UAE to assist the Iraqi people and re-build the country. Meanwhile, Al Nuaimi reviewed with the Indian ambassador Sudhir Byas ways of enhancing bilateral relations in view of the recent visit to the UAE by Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam and also in light of an earlier visit to India by Lt. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
