The United Arab Emirates announced an initiative to donate Information Technology hardware to the least developed countries. An agreement to this effect was signed here today by Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, minister of Government Sector Development and Dr Khalid Aloush, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Al Mansouri said the initiative came within the framework of cooperation between the Ministry and UNDP to collect PCs, printers, scanners and telecommunications devices, phased-out by government entities. "The used IT and Telecommunications systems will be overhauled and distributed to the least developed countries for use in development, education and information technology schemes," he added. The initiative aims at spreading e-knowledge in remote and rural areas of some least developed Arab countries. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
