President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a federal decree to establish a National Authority for Qualifications.

According to the Federal Decree No. 1 for the year 2010, the authority will be affiliated to the Cabinet, have independent legal status and full legal capacity to act.

It should also work in coordination with the concerned authorities to establish and develop a national system of educational qualifications in the state through drawing up plans and policies in this regard within a comprehensive and standardised strategy of the qualifications, which determines regulations and standards of higher, general, technical education qualification and vocational training and how to develop them continuously in order to keep pace with scientific and technological progress and the requirements of economic and social development in UAE.

Under this system, the authority will grant equivalent certificates and qualifications of higher, general, technical education and vocational training. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
