The UAE have done it again in the snooker tournament that has become their own over the last twelve years. Played to a gripping finish in Al Karama's Dubai Snooker Club, the 12th annual GCC championships were played to an end in the match that featured the UAE with challengers Bahrain biting at their heels.

Four gold medals were up for grabs in the various disciplines, and it was the UAE who eventually walked away with an unprecedented haul of three gold medals in addition to another hat trick of high break prizes from the four events.

UAE coach Nic Barrow said: "I am full of admiration for the UAE players, and what they have done for the UAE in the last twelve years is a phenomenal achievement unmatched by any sporting team in any gulf state. "I would like to fully acknowledge their fighting spirit, playing ability and personal qualities that have made it all possible. "I fully expect that in three years time, a gold medal for every one of the fifteen reds in the snooker triangle will be in the UAE team's trophy cabinet." The team event had Bahrain needing to win the three-man tie 3-0 to take their first ever GCC crown. (The Gulf News)
