UAE fully committed to UN's 'Every Woman Every Child Everywhere' initiative: official

WASHINGTON, D.C.: The UAE is fully committed to the Every Woman Every Child Everywhere, or EWECE, a United Nations' global multi-stakeholder partnership that provides a unique platform to mobilise efforts across sectors to deliver on an integrated agenda for women's, children's and adolescents' health and wellbeing, according to Rym Abdullah Al Falasy, Secretary-General of the UAE Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Member of the High-level Steering Group for the UN partnership.

The UAE's commitment to this global movement is driven by the directives of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Al Falasy said during a recent meeting of the EWECE's High-level Steering Group in Washington, D.C.

Launched by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during the United Nations Millennium Development Goals Summit in September 2010, the Every Woman Every Child initiative puts into action the Global Strategy for Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health, which presents a roadmap to ending all preventable deaths of women, children and adolescents within a generation and ensuring their well-being. In 2015, with the support of the UAE, UN's humanitarian partners added a new strand, ‘Everywhere', recognising that women and children in fragile and humanitarian settings must not be overlooked when it comes to accessing reproductive health care.

This global strategy is at the centre of UAE's attention as it aims to boost sustainable development and assistance for all children and women, and in particular those affected by natural disasters and wars, Al Falasy added.

She noted that the third meeting of a UN anti-bullying committee will be hosted by Abu Dhabi that the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood is prepared to work with the committee to support its initiatives.

She expressed the hope that the meeting would contribute towards achieving common goals and supporting relevant initiatives.

All stakeholders should intensify their efforts in assisting all women, children and adolescents wherever they are, to ensure their safety and psychological stability, Al Falasy noted while stressing that Sheikha Fatima pays great attention to the Every Woman Every Child Everywhere initiative.
