UAE gears up for National Day

The Flag Island, Qasba Canal waterfront, Al Majaz Waterfront, main government buildings and squares in Sharjah City, and key landmarks in Al Dhaid, Kalba and Khorfakkan will be the star attractions of the 42nd National Day celebrations in Sharjah.

The Higher Committee for National Day Celebrations in Sharjah has scheduled a series of festivities to celebrate the National Day, observed annually on Dec.2.

The organising committee, under the chairmanship of Mohammed Ali Al Noman, met at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to discuss the status of preparations and follow-up of the implementation of the action plans adopted by the committee at its first meeting.

The committee had met on Sep.25 to mobilise efforts to highlight the occasion in a grand and befitting national manner.

Al Noman discussed the preparedness with the representatives of various government departments and all the members of sub-committees, including the committee on the events, finance committee, committee for organising competitions and the committee for media and advertising.

The meeting reviewed the stages of the work that has been done so far, and to continue preparations for the start of selected events at several points, including Al Majaz Waterfront, government departments, Flag Island which will be an added attraction this year, the cities of Al Dhaid, Kalba and Khorfakan.

He said that the UAE government is keen to highlight this occasion through organising many events that reflect the identity and history of the nation.?

Al Noman said that the committee wants everyone's participation in this national celebration that is "dear to the hearts of everyone.”

He lauded the active participation and excellence provided by Sharjah Investment and Development wing for creating the Flag Island.

The committee will begin decorating the streets and main squares during the next few days with national flags and photos of Rulers and founding fathers and other images that reflect the occasion of the grand National Day. They will try to include everybody in the event through various competitions such as the most beautiful car, the most beautiful home, the most beautiful school and the best poem contest expressing national pride and so on. – The Gulf Today
