The UAE is putting the final touches in preparations for its participation in Expo Zaragoza which will take place from 14th June to 14th September 2008 in Spain under the theme of "Water and Sustainable Development.”

UAE Ambassador to Spain Sultan Mohammed Al Qartasi stressed during a meeting on Wednesday with the director of National Media Council (NMC) the importance of UAE participation in the international exposition along with 96 countries, saying it will use the event to showcase its efforts in provision of water, protection of the environment and search for sources of renewable energy.

He told Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the UAE participation would have far-reaching, positive impact on UAE-Spain bonds in the fields of information and tourism.

'I have sensed great interest from Spanish officials in the UAE involvement in the international gathering. They also praise the UAE's role and policies in issues concerning economic development, environment and development of renewable energy sources inside the country and in developing nations too,' he said.

For his part, Deputy Chairman of NMC and Head of the UAE pavilion supervising committee Salim Saeed Al Ameri said the meeting with the ambassador had reviewed latest arrangements for establishing the 500 square metre pavilion. 'The UAE is keen to have a high profile presence in such international events in order to demonstrate its commitment to conservation of water resources,' he added.

'We will sell and promote the UAE through information and tourism as per an innovative campaign in which the visitor of the exhibition will have insight about the UAE's role and contributions in the protection of the natural, wildlife and marine environment,' he maintained, adding that the campaign seeks to mirror the bright face of the UAE as a leader in these issues especially that it has a living example of delivery of water through aflaj (traditional water channels) which dated back to more than 1000 year. Organisers expect more than 8 million persons to visit the 94-day exciting event. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
