A UAE globetrotter has made by road a distance of 12,595 kilometres by driving from the Far East Russian island of Sakhalin in the Pacific Ocean to St. Petersburg at the far western end of Russia. Dr. Ibrahim Sharaf, a businessman, made the journey in 24 days beginning and ending the journey in this month.
'I made the journey by driving my car for 24 days non-stop crossing all Russian soil from the far east to the far west. I only stop at night to sleep,' Dr. Sharaf told Russia's Novosti News Agency.
The UAE globetrotter said he made the journey in a group, which include Russians and other foreign nationals, adding that they took off from the Russian town of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. He said the journey was based on his initiative, adding that they divided the distance into 20 phases, the longest distance they made was 1,200 kilometres in a day. We were sometimes forced to drive non-stop for 15 to 17 hours,' he said. Dr Sharaf expressed pride for being the first Arab to achieve the feat. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
