UAE hailed as model state - National day 2001

Over the past 30 years, the UAE has become a model country with a pioneering position in Arab regional and international arenas. It enjoys respect of the international community for its achievements and wise policies in political, economic, scientific and cultural fields. Great changes have been witnessed in the history and position of the UAE thanks to the visionary policy of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.



Marking the 30th anniversary of UAE National Day, the Zayed Centre for Coordination and Follow-up issued a dossier carrying statements of a number of leaders. President Jacques Chirac of France said Sheikh Zayed is a wise man and adopted wise policies in the country's distinguished ties with other nations.



"He is keen on maintaining deep-rooted ties between the UAE and France. Sheikh Zayed has also the desire to bring about a balance and dialogue between the Arab and Islamic world on the one hand and the other groupings in the world."



Somali President Dr Abdul Qasim Salat said Sheikh Zayed is known for his humanitarian gestures towards Somali people. "Sheikh Zayed is deeply interested in the situation Somalia and sees the necessity for achieving reconciliation and stability over the land."



Japanese Minister of Trade and Industry Taekyo Hiranoma said Sheikh Zayed has visionary and firm international stands. He salvaged Japan from the oil crisis in 1973 by offering assistance. "Japan is extending its gratitude to His Highness."



Former Japanese Prime Minister Riotaro Hashimoto said Sheikh Zayed enjoys the appreciation of all countries of the world due to his strong stands and that there are identical views adopted by the UAE and Japan on international issues.



Former US President Jimmy Carter said Sheikh Zayed had offered assistance to poor countries which faced catastrophes and civil unrest. "Sheikh Zayed is among the important leaders who support humanitarian work and he contributed to the international efforts to decrease the number of people suffering from malnutrition, maladies and civil wars."



Carter praised the UAE's stand and regarded it a pioneering model which is keen on solidarity between the people of the world. "The humanitarian stand of the UAE people and leaders has remarkably been reflected in Sheikh Zayed's statements and his noble stands."



Former UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim said Sheikh Zayed enjoys respect of the international community for his commitment to world peace and just and durable solution to the Middle East conflict.



Richard Murphy, former US Assistant Secretary of State, said Sheikh Zayed is interested in international issues with which he deals with foresight.



Lakhdar Ibrahim, Assistant UN Secretary General and Foreign Minister of Algeria, praised the development of the UAE in all fields. He closely monitored negotiations between UAE Rulers and for establishing the Federation.



"Everybody has respect and appreciation for Sheikh Zayed's genuine Arab stands and his assistance to other Arab countries."



Ambassador Saeed Kamal, Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League for Palestinian Affairs, said the UAE under the leadership of Sheikh Zayed has been distinguished for its firm and supportive stand to the Palestinian people and its leaders in their struggle for restoring inalienable rights.



Jordanian Ambassador in the UAE Eid Kamel Al Rawdan said His Majesty King Abdullah II regards the UAE as its second country. He recalled that Sheikh Zayed had said: "King Abdullah is like my son and even dearer."



Algerian Ambassador Abdul Hamid Buzaher said Sheikh Zayed and the UAE government remained committed to its support to Algeria and its people to overcome its ordeal.



Sudanese Ambassador Mohi'e Al Din Salem Ahmed said Sheikh Zayed's stand during the October 1973 war was honourable when he gave his well-known statement: "Arab oil is not as precious as Arab blood."



He said: "That day, the Arab nation unified in terms of economy, armed forces and peoples and managed to conquer Israel and achieve victory."



Syrian Ambassador Ahmed Al Hallak said Sheikh Zayed is the first leader who led a union experience which still exists today by the grace of Allah and blessings of the leader.



Deep-rooted



Palestinian Ambassador Khalid Malik said Sheikh Zayed is known for his firm and supportive stand for the Palestinian people. "The Palestinian people highly appreciate his assistance."



Lebanese Ambassador Hassan Salim said the UAE spared no efforts and was always there to share "our suffering and work and endeavour to alleviate them."



Lebanese President Emile Lahoud said the Lebanese people will never forget Sheikh Zayed's passion for them and the continuous support to Lebanon on various occasions, especially the contribution to remove the impact of Israeli aggression.



Former Egyptian Ambassador Mohammed Abdul Monem Al Shazli said Sheikh Zayed has foresight for Arab issues and feels for the causes, especially the Palestinian issue, away from slogans.



"Sheikh Zayed steadily goes on with his civilised approach towards the Arab causes, mustering support from various quarters."



Indian Ambassador K.C. Singh said that Sheikh Zayed has managed to take his country to high levels of development.



He praised Sheikh Zayed's visionary leadership and tolerance of UAE society. "With this tolerance people of all religions and races coexist peacefully in the UAE," he said.



Pakistani Ambassador Maj. Gen. retired Saleem Ullah said that Sheikh Zayed is among the few leaders who made history.



"Pakistan was the first country to recognise the UAE Federation and the first to establish an embassy in the country. This contributed to boosting relations between the two countries."



Philippines Ambassador Amable R. Aguiluz III said that Sheikh Zayed has managed over a short period of time to build a modern country.



He expressed gratitude to Sheikh Zayed for building a $2 million mosque in the Philippines.



Canadian Ambassador praised Sheikh Zayed for ordering the construction of houses in the occupied Palestinian territories and his initiative to allocate $50 million to remove mines from South Lebanon.



Sri Lankan Ambassador Janaka Nakkawita praised the UAE-Sri Lanka ties as historic and deep-rooted.



German Ambassador Alexander Mollen said the UAE is Germany's second Arab trade partner, praising the wise policy adopted by His Highness Sheikh Zayed.



Moroccan Ambassador Abdullah Azmani said that Sheikh Zayed always care for ties between the two countries. "Sheikh Zayed always respond by distinguished and humanitarian stands. The UAE-Morocco relations are historic and deep-rooted." (The Gulf News)
