Marrakesh - The United Arab Emirates had played a key role in drafting the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), according to Dr Abdul Rahim Yousif Al Awadi, Assistant Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs. The country later signed and ratified the convention in expression of commitment to a global legal framework for combating acts of corruption.

Addressing the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in Marrakesh yesterday, Al Awadi said the UAE ranked first in the Arab world in fighting corruption. He added that the country also made a significant improvement in the world's Corruption Perceptions Index, moving to 28th place, from 30th in 2010. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
