UAE initiative for cooperation Forum between Arab states and Pacific Island countries hailed

Cairo - The Arab League Council has welcomed the UAE initiative for a meeting between Arab States and the Pacific island countries to increase cooperation between the two sides.

The Council is currently holding its 134th meeting in Cairo on the level of the permanent representatives for the preparing for the ministerial meeting due to open tomorrow.

Assistant to UAE Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Dr. Tariq Haidan said that the Council hailed the initiative of Foreign Minister H.H Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to hold a cooperation forum between Arab states and Pacific Island countries would contribute to the activation of cooperation between the two sides in the areas of trade, investment, among others.

The Forum will be held in Abu Dhabi at a date to be decided by the Arab League, Haidan told the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

A joint meeting between members of the League of Arab States and the Pacific Small Islands Developing states was held earlier in June this year in Abu Dhabi at the behest of Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The meeting was held in order to explore ways and means to invigorate cooperation between the two parties in the various political, economic, social and cultural fields, and to review prospects of future development of that cooperation.

The Pacific Islands countries include Samoa, Solomon Islands, Palau, Nauru, Vanuatu, Tonga, Tuvalu, Fiji, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
