Sana'a - UAE Red Crescent Authority has intensified its humanitarian operations in Yemen marking the advent of the Holy Month of Ramadan. Director of Red Crescent office in Yemen Khalfan Saif Al-Kindi said that the UAE RCA operates in Yemen throughout all months of the year in various projects covering most provinces of the country.

'But during Ramadan, the humanitarian operations have a very different colour as it takes assistance to the targeted segments of the society helping them observe the holy month of fasting.' Al-Kindi told Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The RCA office in Sana'a has set a goal to provide help and assistance to hundred and fifty thousand people during this month, he added. RCA volunteers are busy with taking food baskets containing essential food items such as wheat flour, edible oil, sugar and dates to the far flung areas in Yemen, where it is relatively difficult to reach. 'This help will surely draw smile of comfort on the faces of thousands of needy families', Al-Kindi noted.

The RCA is also distributing Eid garments to poor children, thus filling their hearts with happiness as they are waiting to celebrate the Eid Al-Fitr at the end of the holy month.

The beneficiaries of the humanitarian operations of RCA in Yemen are not only the Yemenis, but there are other nationalities such as Somali and Palestinian refugees living in various camps in Yemen, added Al Kindi.

Kindi said that one of the UAE RCA's main projects in Yemen is the establishment of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Housing complex consisting of 1000 homes in the province of Hadramout for people affected by torrential rains and floods that have ravaged the country early in 2008.

Another project is the Mazraq2 Camp indented to provide shelter, healthcare, education and entertainment for the people displaced as a result of the war Sa'ada province. This project is implemented under directives of President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and is directly supervised by H.H Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
