Sheikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Assistant Under Secretary of Ministry of Health and Director of Sharjah Medical Zone said here today that the UAE has continued to be free of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, SARS. He said that since the outbreak of the disease, health authorities in the country stationed medical teams at all the country's airports to monitor passengers arriving from SARS-infested countries that had been declared by the WHO.

Preventive measures adopted also included increasing the level of readiness of airport medical clinics, establishing isolation places in major hospitals and urging medical staff to abide by personal protective measures in order to prevent the spreading of the disease. The measures also include issuing instructions to civil aviation departments and airlines to report about any suspected cases among the passengers arriving the country as well as increasing the awareness of the passengers about the disease by providing them with WHO guidelines. He said that although there is no single case recorded in the country, yet there is need to take necessary preventive measures to keep the country free from such disease.
