The UAE has been and will continue to be in the forefront of global aid donors, said HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA).

In a speech delivered on his behalf by his son Sheikh Sultan, Sheikh Hamdan said the UAE had always sought to ameliorate the suffering of those affected most by natural or manmade disasters, irrespective of their geographical, religious and racial affiliations.

"With the tireless support of the UAE leadership - President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and owing to the close follow up of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces- the RCA was able to provide a glimmer of hope to thousands of distressed people around the globe", said Sheikh Hamdan in the speech which was read at the Arab Charity Forum, organised by the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR).

Sheikh Hamdan added: "The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan had inculcated in us the values of philanthropy, which is why the RCA is reaching out to everybody in need, regardless of their race, religion or geographical background", he said

The Arab Charity Forum conferred on Deputy Prime Minister of UAE HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan the title of 'Knight of Arab Charity' in appreciation of his pioneering role in taking humanitarian help to all corners of the world.

In its citation, ECSSR said that the Knighthood is conferred upon Sheikh Hamdan in appreciation of his philanthropic efforts on all fronts in general, and in the fields of healthcare and environmental protection in particular.

Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan received the award on behalf of his father at a ceremony specially organised on the sidelines of the Arab Charity Forum.

Addressing the gathering, the world renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. Adil Al Shamari, who heads the Zayed Charity Initiative said that the Forum is inspired greatly by the vision of Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a vision followed by President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He also made special tribute to HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces for giving directives for the implementation of various charity drives.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed has enormously transformed the humanitarian facade of the UAE. Under his leadership, UAE's Red Crescent Authority gradually grew into pioneering institution on Arab, Asian and global levels.

He also participated in philanthropic works on the local, regional and global fronts, pushed forward the development projects in remote regions, supported activities aimed at rehabilitating disabled people, promoted environmental protection and strengthened relations among Red Crescent, the Public and Private sectors.

Sheikh Hamdan's role in providing drinking water and setting up dams in several regions in the country has been commented by beneficiaries as vital humanitarian help.

On the global front, he directed RCA to respond fast at times of disasters and mobilised the RCA aid into every corner of the world wherever there was need for relief operations and humanitarian works.

Sheikh Hamdan personally contributed to charity and humanitarian drives to alleviate the sufferings of people, especially in Niger and Pakistan.

Sheikh Hamdan has received a number of shields and accolades in appreciation of his humanitarian role, the latest being the UN shield, which he received from the UN Secretary General's special envoy Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed al Rukban.
