New York - The United Arab Emirates last night urged the International Community to shoulder its responsibilities in the implementation of the UN's resolutions regarding containing the absence of stability and security in the Middle East, expressing concern about the continuing of poor conditions which are experienced by women and their children in both Palestine and Iraq as a result of acts of violence.

This came during a statement made by Ambassador Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, Permanent Representative of the UAE at the UN, before the official special meeting of the Security Council yesterday on the item "Women, Peace and Security".

Al Jarman said that, despite the passage of nearly seven years on the adoption of Security Council's resolution No. / 1325 / for / 2000 / regarding the concept and the International plan for the protection of women during armed conflicts, however, the International Community is still far from achieving the goals that were looking forward to in this area, especially at a time when unanimous reports and statistics from the sites of conflicts assure that women and children still are the primary objectives of fighters and elements that are subjected to various forms of attacks and operations of ethnic cleansing.

He strongly condemned the continuing spread of all types of aggressions and acts of violence against women and girls in situations of armed conflicts and stressed on the need to strengthen cooperation between the bodies of the UN's system, especially the Peace-building Commission that is being backed by the UAE.
