The UAE yesterday reiterated its support for efforts to bring stability to Iraq. H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, said the UAE is backing efforts for stability in Iraq under a government wholly devoted to achieve aspirations of Iraqi people for development and stability and running its own affairs with full independence and freedom. '

'Iraqi people should be viewed as a single integrated entity for the sake of stability and security and for allowing the Iraqi people to pool their resources for development,' Sheikh Khalifa said after talks with US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, who is currently visiting the UAE as part of a regional tour. Armitage is accompanied by US Assistant Secretary of State for Near East William Burns.

Sheikh Khalifa and Armitage held talks over ways of enhancing bilateral relations and exchanged views on latest regional and international developments with emphasis on Iraq and Palestine. On Palestine, Sheikh Khalifa stressed the vital importance of reviving the Middle East peace process in order to achieve the comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the region.

He also called the international community to provide protection for the Palestinian people and back its right for an independent state. Lt. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Deputy Crown Prince and Chief of Staff of the UAE, Foreign Minister Rashid Abdullah, US ambassador Marcelle Wahba and a number of senior officials were present at the meeting.
