The UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Hamdan met French President Chirac in Paris on 22 November. During the meeting Sheikh Hamdan said that 'the UAE was ready to contribute to the reconstruction of Afghanistan under UN auspices', and that following the instructions of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan emergency relief has been sent to Afghanistan to help refugees.

Sheikh Hamdan also conveyed a message to Chirac from Sheikh Zayed concerning bilateral strategic friendship relations and the current international situation, focusing on the latest developments in Afghanistan and ways of reinforcing the global coalition to fight terrorism. Chirac paid tribute to Sheikh Zayed for his support for the global anti-terror coalition and said that his recent visit to the UAE had shown that Paris and Abu Dhabi shared identical views on various current international developments.
