Emirates World Heart Group (EWHG) and the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) launched yesterday in Dar Es Salam the "Beating Heart" initiative aimed to treat children with heart diseases in the Horn of Africa.

Under the initiative, which was launched under the theme "Together for A Beating Heart for Children", a host of world-renowned heart surgeons and physicians from UAE, France, Syria, UK, Argentine, Egypt, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia will treat thousands of African children with congenital fatal heart conditions.

World-renowned heart surgeon Juan Carlos Chachques hailed the initiative, which is the first in the region to offer high quality free treatment to thousands of underprivileged African children.

He also hailed humanitarian efforts by the H.H Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed AL Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and President of RCA adding that UAE's similar charity programmes in Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, Eritrea, Kenya, Syria and Lebanon have put the country at the forefront of international humanitarian action.

He said the initiative has attracted voluntary efforts by renowned surgeons who believe in humanitarian giving.

For his part, Dr. Adel Al Shameri head of the RCA-sponsored Emirates World Heart Group (EWHG) said a team of 12 doctors, technicians and administrative personnel from UAE, Arab countries, Europe and African will work under Zayed Charity Initiative, a humanitarian plan launched earlier by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and was later adopted by the UAE top leadership to further alleviate the suffering of patients worldwide. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
