UAE may ease visa policy

The UAE Government is studying further liberalisation of its visa policy for visitors to boost growth in the tourism sector, a senior Dubai Government official said. "The government is looking into it and we expect some more relaxation," said Khalid Ahmad Bin Sulayem, director-general of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), which regulates tourism in Dubai.

"The UAE has already relaxed its visa policy for incoming foreign visitors. Nationals of many countries do not require visas, while others get visas upon arrival. This has contributed to the growth of our tourism industry," Bin Sulayem said.

The UAE grants only single-entry visit or transit visas to foreign tourists, which often must be arranged through travel agencies, hotels or other establishments. There have been requests from industry operators to permit business travellers to obtain multiple-entry visas to ease their travel to the UAE.

DTCM will promote Dubai in China, South Korea and North America by opening offices there, Bin Sulayem said. "We are also strengthening our Saudi operations as there has been increased investment and tourism exchange from the Saudi market." (The Gulf News)
