UAE mine experts clear 8 million square metres in Lebanon

Beirut - The UAE Project for Reconstruction and Support of Lebanon announced today that 8 million square metres in South Lebanon had been cleared of unexploded ordinance (UXO) since the start of Operation Emirates Solidarity in 2001 up to the end of October 2007. "Lands in south Lebanon have been cleaned up from unexploded mines and cluster bombs were handed out to their owners in the presence of mayors and representatives of UN Mine Action Coordination Centre,” said Colonel Saif Al Jabiri, Head of the UXO Committee at the Project. "Around 7,506 mines and cluster bombs have been cleared,” he added. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
