Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore yesterday said that the UAE was an Arab model for progress, peace, tolerance and multiracial harmony. In a statement after a meeting with Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Al Gore said that the U.S was one of the first countries to have established diplomatic ties with the UAE in 1971 and that since then the UAE had become the second largest market in the region for U.S. products. He said that the relations between the U.S. and the Arab world were becoming more important now than anytime before due to the cooperation needed on vital security, economic and environmental challenges that faced both sides. Present at the meeting were Rashid Abdullah, Foreign Minister, Saeed al-Gaith, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Obeid Saif al- Nasiri, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and other officials.
