UAE offers Dlrs 3m in support of Afghanistan fund

Doha (WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) offered today an initial donation of three million Dollars in support of a fund for helping Afghan people. The fund was proposed by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of Qatar and current Chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC). Qatar offered ten million Dollars to the fund. Foreign Minister Rashid Abdullah announced the donation at Doha where he is attending the extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC). Abdullah hailed Sheikh Hamad's move as a good initiative, saying it mirrored the OIC's care for the Afghani people suffering. President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has ordered the UAE Red Crescent Society to rush relief supplies worth Dh 15 million to Afghan refugees. H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President's Wife and Chairwoman of the UAE Women's Federation, has offered Dh 5 million. WAM
