UAE offers assistance to fight money laundering

The UAE has reiterated that it was ready to provide the United Nation and other organisations concerned with technical assistance to combat money laundering. It also said it was prepared to play host to a regional conference and workshops on this topic with GCC and Middle East countries participating. This was announced yesterday during Central Bank Governor, Sultan bin Nasser Al Suweidi's meeting with experts of UN programme for monitoring of narcotics and prevention of crime. The meeting discussed a number of issues of mutual interest including the measures being taken by the UAE to combat money laundering and achievements of the Central Bank in this regard. Al Suweidi stressed that the measure being taken by the UAE to fight money laundering were in keeping with international initiatives and conventions. He also stressed that the UAE was keen on boosting international co-operation to fight money laundering. (The Gulf News)
