UAE paediatric mobile hospital to move to Somali refugee camps

Nairobi - The Emirates Paediatric Mobile Hospital will be airlifted to Somalia to deliver its healthcare services to famine-hit regions with 24 hour.

The humanitarian medical mission is in implementation of instructions by HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU) and of the Family Development Foundation, to accelerate efforts to provide best diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive services to Somali refugee camps. It also underlines the commitment of the Giving Initiative to treat one million children to answer appeals for treat and protect children and mothers in light of disease outbreak, acute shortage of medical professionals and equipment.

The 15 - bed integrated mobile hospital, the first-of-its-kind in the world, is run by an elite medical team from the UAE, and Arab, European and American countries, and contains an emergency unit, out-patient clinic, an ICU, operations theatre.

Noura Al Suwaidi, Director of the GWU, said Sheikh Fatima is keen to adopt humanitarian initiatives that ease suffering of children and paint smile on their innocent faces.

The Somalia's campaign, she added was rolled out under the theme 'Right to Life' as part of concern and care the UAE leadership lends to relief efforts towards alleviating hardship the peoples of the Horn of Africa are experiencing.

'The medical drive will focus on four major programmes - therapeutic, surgical, preventive, and training - to ease suffering of children and deliver proper healthcare services," she indicated. Towards delivering its mission, the team will also build constructive partnerships between government and non-government organisations and conduct researches and studies. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
