UAE participates in the 43rd UNESCO conference

Paris - The 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference began yesterday in Paris under the presidency of Musa Jaffar bin Hassan from Oman and The Director-General of UNESCO, Koichiro Matsuura. More than 80 ministers of education participate in this session and the UAE delegation to this session is headed by Dr. Hanif Hassan, the Minister of Education.

The session is aimed to examine how education influences economic development and alleviates poverty. Dr. Hanif will concentrate in his speech in this conference on the development of education in the UAE and how the government is highly concerned about it. He will point out the strategic plan announced by Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum last April which gave education sector special concern.

The Minister will discuss the most important features of the strategy and the initiatives of the UAE towards the process of developing education all around the world through international education awards such as sheikh Khalifa Award for Education, sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Award for Educational Performance , the imitative of sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to provide a million needy children all around the globe with basic education and the different indicatives of late Sheikh Zayed in Africa and Asia besides international partnership and transfer of experiences and knowledge.

Dr. Hanif will also emphasize the important role that the UNESCO can play to support dialogues between civilizations and cultures. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
