The UAE pavilion at the Expo Zaragoza 2008 has won the golden award for excellence of design and quality of items and content on display.
The UAE pavilions shared the awarded with pavilions of Oman, Jordan, Japan, Philippines and Germany. Winners of the silver award include Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Turkey and Denmark.
Winners are named by a panel representing the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) and Expo Zaragoza 2008.
The award was delivered to director of the pavilion Abdullah Al-Aidarous by secretary general of the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE)Vincente Gonzalez Loscertales in presence of the Head of the Government of Aragon, Marcelino Iglesias, Commissioner General of the Exposition Emilio Fernandez-Castao y Diaz Caneja and Chairman of the Bureau of International Exhibitions Jean Piere La Fon.
"The award is in recognition to the UAE for its distinct participation at the exposition and the design and shows which draws the attention of visitors", said Loscertales who added that the UAE harnessed technology for the environment and sustainable development.
Present at the award-giving ceremony was held at Al-Ja'afariya Palace, an Islamic historic site in Spain, were ministers, members of the parliament, senior Spanish officials, commissioners of other countries' pavilions and Mayor of Hanover.
Al Aidarous thanked the management of the Exposition for offering all facilities to all participants. Around one million visitors toured the UAE pavilion since Expo Zaragoza 2008 was open in mid June. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
