Bethlehem - UAE Minister of Foreign Trade H.E. Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi has affirmed that the brotherly ties that exist between the United Arab Emirates and the State of Palestine have been characterised with strength and continuity throughout the past years and decades.

Sheikha Lubna's comments, which came as she spoke to reporters on the sidelines of the "Investment in Palestine" conference which was convened today in the Palestinian city of Bethlehem, stressed that the UAE has always been, since the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a primary supporter of the Palestinian Cause and the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and it continues to be so under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE President, adding that the UAE's support does not stop at only being political but rather goes further to include economic aspects that are related to the Palestinian people and the daily hardships that they face with the aim achieving sustainable development in the land of Palestine.

She also told the reporters that the UAE has always been actively working on alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people during all of the humanitarian challenges that they have faced through the accomplishment of large developmental, social, humanitarian, residential, health, and educational projects across the cities and towns of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

The UAE minister stressed: "We feel that this political and economic support, coupled with the humanitarian assistance that we extend, are all part of our duties and responsibilities towards the Palestinian people, and we, in the United Arab Emirates, are keen on extending this direct assistance to the Palestinian people to help them withstand the challenges and difficulties that they face." She also stressed that the large UAE participation in the Investment in Palestine conference underlines the UAE's constant support of Palestinian development, and that the conference offers an opportunity to explore first-hand the existing projects and investment activities in Palestine. This all contributes, she added, towards instilling life in the Palestinian economy once again, and putting in place the basis for long term development and establishing the foundations of a competitive and dynamic Palestinian economy.

Sheikha Lubna said that the wide Emirati participation also reflects the keenness of Emirati national companies and businessmen to expand their base of operations through investment projects that include Palestine, pointing out that the wide UAE participation will help boost UAE-Palestinian bilateral ties, especially in the economic, commercial and investment fields, which constitute the most suitable grounds for further strengthening joint cooperation between our two brotherly states and peoples in general, and our business communities in particular.

The United Arab Emirates is participating in the "Investment in Palestine Conference" with one of the largest delegations, composed of around 160 representatives of public and private sector representatives, and Palestinian businessmen (from all economic sectors) who are residing in the UAE.

She added that foreign UAE investments enjoy a large presence in the Arab world, especially over the past years following the introduction of economic reforms in many Arab countries, pointing out that the investments of UAE companies will increase even more as these economies become more open.

She also added that UAE companies investing abroad also focus on the social, humanitarian, and developmental aspects of the countries they invest in through the construction of industrial and housing compounds and the implementation of essential economic and developmental projects that positively reflect on the local society and economy and that they are also careful to employ local labour, a strategy which they are continuing to adopt since it's one of the main factors that makes the world's countries and societies welcome them, and one of the main factors why their investments are successful.

She also pointed out that the fact that the "Palestine Investment Conference" is being held on the land of Palestine, is testament to the level of awareness of the Palestinian leadership in Palestine to the important role the economy, investment, and development play in nation-building and garnering global respect and also demonstrates the government's keenness on creating a modern investment climate and bringing about effective economic progress in order to achieve sustainable development, adding that this conference, and other economic activities, play an important role in showcasing investment opportunities in Palestine and introducing the Arab and regional private sectors to the Palestinian one. They also offer an opportunity, she added, to explore first-hand the existing projects and investment activities in Palestine and contribute towards instilling life in the Palestinian economy once again, and putting in place the basis for long term development and establishing the foundations of a competitive and dynamic Palestinian economy.

The UAE minister added that the conference and the distinguished level of participation from international businessmen and investors, constitutes an important setting for the further strengthening of economic cooperation between Palestine and the rest of the world, expressing her hope that all of these efforts will materialise into investment projects that would achieve our mutual interests and aspired goals.

She added that Palestine today possesses good foundations for attracting direct foreign investments especially with its possession of a skilled human capital, an asset which represents one of the pre-requisites of successful investment, not to mention its private sector which has been able to persevere and achieve numerous success stories not only on the local and regional level, but also internationally.

She also expressed her admiration of the steps taken by the Palestinian Government towards opening up and developing the Palestinian economy, which are, she added, being closely followed by investors and businessmen in the United Arab Emirates and the entire world. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
