President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan today sent a letter to the United Nations expressing the UAE's support for the Palestinian people in their just struggle to achieve freedom, independence and for establishment of an independent state of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.

Sheikh Khalifa urged the international community to provide the necessary protection for the Palestinian people and to enhance political and economic support for them to enable them hold the next presidential elections of the Palestinian National Authority, rebuild their shattered institutions and destroyed towns and to enable them effectively face the dangerous situation caused by the continuous Israeli aggression against them.

The statement is contained in a letter of solidarity Sheikh Khalifa sent to the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, Paul Badji, who is also the Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian people, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, which falls on November 29. Badji marked the day yesterday at the UN headquarters here in New York.

Sheikh Khalifa criticised the Israeli government of trying to rob the Middle East peace process and the Roadmap of their political contents to serve the Jewish entity's expansionism objectives and to entrench its occupation of the Palestinian and Arab land which it has been occupying since 1967.

He repeated the UAE's call to the international community, particularly members of the Quartet Committee and the permanent members of the UN Security Council, to work seriously to bring more pressure on the Israeli government to make it stop its continuous incursions into and blockade of Palestinian towns and refugee camps, to end its intentional and systematic destruction of Palestinian institutions and to seriously return to the negotiations table to bring the peace process back on track in a way that would lead to the achievement of permanent and just peace on the Palestinian issue and on the problems of the Middle East in general. "This would be achieved only if there is a full Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Arab lands," the letter said. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
