A UAE delegation, led by Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State, and Member of the Higher Committee, Dubai Expo 2020, has made an official visit to Sweden, meeting leading Swedish companies, public institutes and government agencies to develop bilateral ties and promote Expo 2020 Dubai.

The visit, which took place on 1st November, is a continuation of Expo 2020 Dubai's international outreach to potential country participants in the mega-event, which began in May this year at the International Planning Meeting, where Expo organisers welcomed representatives from 132 countries.

Dr Sultan Al Jaber said: "Sweden is a global leader in innovation, equality and diversity. It's the home of the Nobel Prize, annual awards that celebrate the power of ideas to shape our world for the better. In so many ways it exemplifies the theme of Expo 2020 Dubai: Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. The visit further strengthened our bilateral ties and relations with the business community, as we explore mutually beneficial commercial opportunities and collaborate to ensure the success of Expo 2020 Dubai. ."

Dr Sultan Al Jaber outlined Expo 2020 Dubai's plans both for the mega event, and its legacy, which will see the Expo 2020 site transition into a hub within the UAE's burgeoning knowledge economy.

This week's visit builds on the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in the area of innovation, trade and investment. In 2015, the UAE and Kingdom of Sweden signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in innovation and research, and developing entrepreneurship and SMEs. A group of Swedish companies including Sweden's Innovation Agency, Vinnova and Saab, global leader in military defence and civil security, has since been formed to implement this agreement.

A business roundtable on Expo 2020 Dubai organised by Business Sweden was attended by members of this group, such as Saab, Samtrans, Securitas, Sigma Connectivity, Cybercom, Orbital Systems, LFV, Exeger, Ericsson as well as other institutions including the Swedish Institute,.

The UAE delegation, led by His Excellency Dr Sultan Al Jaber included Mohammed Sharaf, UAE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Economic Affairs,, Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development; Sultan bin Rashid Al Kaitoob, UAE Ambassador to Sweden, Dr. Aisha Butti bin Bishr; Director General Smart Dubai Office; Khalifa Al Shamsi, Chief Strategy and Corporate Governance Officer, Etisalat; Hassan Al Hashemi, Vice President International Relations, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Ian Malcolm, Finance Director, Board Member London Gateway; Sara Falaknaz, Vice Chairman of Innovation DP World; Mohammad Al Hashimy, Deputy CEO of Europe Region, DP World, and members of the Expo 2020 Dubai team. - Emirates News Agency, WAM -http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates-international/1395302427059.html
