The Umm Qasr-based UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) office received yesterday a shipment of food from the UAE to be distributed to the Iraqi people. The food shipment is part of the RCA humanitarian campaign launched to help alleviate the suffering of Iraqi people under the instructions of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The assistance included 700 tons of food, ten ambulances, medicines and medical equipment, donated by the President His Highness Sheikh Zayed.

It also comprised three drinking water tanks of a capacity of 5,000 tons each, in addition to a heavy truck. Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Hassan, Deputy head of the RCA delegation to Iraq, said the RCA has continued to sent assistance to the Iraqi people as per instructions of the President, indicating that the campaign has managed remarkably to reduce the agony of the Iraqi people.

He said the RCA delegation is touring cities and villages to extend help to Iraqi brothers wherever they are. Abdul Rahman added that the RCA has always been there both during the sanctions imposed on the country and in the post-war period.

He said the RCA programmes will not be limited to relief only but will later involve the reconstruction of the infrastructure destroyed in the war. The RCA's sixth delegation arrived in Samawa city and gave assistance to the city's dignitaries for distribution to residents under supervision of the delegation, led by Saeed Mohammed Al Mansouri, member of the RCA.
