The UAE is absolutely free from bird flu and every effort is being made to keep it that way, an official of the National Emergency Response Committee for Bird Flu told Gulf News yesterday. Majid Al Mansouri, spokesman of the committee and Secretary General of Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, said residents need not worry about the flu outbreak in Turkey, and the authorities are monitoring the situation in Turkey and other affected areas.

"There is no report of a single case of the flu among birds across the UAE. There is a ban on the import of any kind of birds from a number of countries, including Turkey, while wild and migratory birds are being monitored," Al Mansouri said. He said that a national contingency plan is already in place, and all preventive steps have been taken. (The Gulf News)
