UAE renews support to Palestinians

The UAE has renewed its unstinted support to the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. In a letter to the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, President H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan re-affirmed the UAE support for the Palestinian rights and also urged the international community, particularly the donor community and the economic organizations to redouble efforts to provide political, economic, relief and developmental assistance to the Palestinian people and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA).

Sheikh Zayed also said in the letter that was issued yesterday on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, that it was a moral imperative for the international community to support the just cause of the Palestinian people until they achieve their freedom and independence. Sheikh Zayed also expressed his condemnation of all forms of human rights violations perpetuated against the Palestinian people by Israeli government and its military which is armed with dangerous and internationally banned weapons.

The increscent attempts by Israel to thwart the Roadmap Peace Plan with the aim of ultimately rendering it meaningless must be equally condemned, said Sheikh Zayed in the letter which was addressed to Papa Louis Fall, current Chairman of UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. The President noted that Israel's attempts to frustrate the Roadmap Peace Plan were part of its policy to continue its illegal occupation of more Palestinian territories and thereby create a fait accompli. Sheikh Zayed further held the United Nations and members of the Quartet countries responsible for the continued Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people. He urged the UN and Quartet members to adapt urgent and serious measures - as prescribed under Item 7 of the UN Charter - to bring pressure to bear on Israel to withdraw fully and unconditionally from all the Arab territories occupied in 1967. Israel must fulfil its moral and legal obligations and comply fully with the agreements that it has signed, in addition to international law and relevant human rights protocols, Sheikh Zayed concluded.
