The UAE will continue its relentless support to the Palestinian people until they regain their inalienable rights, culminating in the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, according to a top UAE official.

In remarks during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, renewed support to the Palestinian cause and also paid tribute to the Palestinian people for their resilience in the face of the Israeli blockade.

"We also call upon our Palestinian brethren to unify ranks within the framework of a national unity government that will be capable of dealing with the current challenges, attain a statehood and ensure decent living conditions to the people", said Sheikh Hamdan.

For his part, the Palestinian leader expressed his appreciation for the unstinted support provided by the UAE under the leadership of President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Abbas also added that he had briefed Sheikh Hamdan on the current efforts being made to form a government of national unity that will be able to deal with current challenges such as the Israeli blockade.

He reiterated the appeal of the Palestinian people to their Arab brethren and other friendly countries to revive the peace process so as to bring about a final settlement to the Palestinian question.

President Abbas further revealed that his current tour was aimed at briefing Arab leaders about the deteriorating conditions in Palestine as well as on the efforts being made to form a government of national unity. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
