Geneva: Ambassador Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations and other International Organisations has discussed with Dr. Fatoumata Nafo-Traore, executive director of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership (RBM), the partnership which more than 5000 international, regional and local organisation work within its umbrella in addition to government and private sectors contributions.

During the meeting, Traore reviewed the positive results accomplished through this partnership reducing the death ratio due to malaria from about one million case to 500,000, representing 40% reduction in deaths despite the economic crises which affected badly the funding and the proposed cash support for projects in the affected countries.

The CEO expressed her thanks and appreciation for UAE's generous support and hoped that this will continue in the future, since the country is famous for its huge humanitarian support to the needy in all fields particularly in the health sector. She added that UAE is one of the model countries in eliminating malaria epidemic.

For his part, Al Zaabi affirmed that UAE gives extra care for human health everywhere without discrimination and it will actively participate in the activities of (RBM) Partnership.

It is worth mentioning that Abu Dhabi Health Authority will provide US$ 25 million to contribute in the fight against malaria at the global level under an agreement reached with World Health Organisation in 2010. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
